New Watercolour Book based on my six week course available at Amazon NOW
The book is available on Amazon (click the link below) and is yours for the princely sum of £5. Of course I would love to see my book in print but the cost of publishing photo books of this size is prohibitive. However, the advantage of an ebook is you can zoom in on the pictures to study them in detail. Something I find myself wishing I could do when looking at a "real" book.
To get the most from the book it should be followed in sequence as each part builds on the knowledge and skills learnt in the previous one. There are exercises throughout the book which have been devised to increase understanding of the theory, techniques and materials used. I believe this understanding leads to independent learning enabling any subject matter to be painted in any style. We are, after all, individuals.
Having said that there is one step-by-step demonstration. This involves negative painting which is hard to understand and impossible to describe in words with no illustrative example.
I am proud of the book as a whole but in particular the chapter describing the wet-into-wet technique. This is the hardest technique to master but one which encapsulates the very nature of painting with watercolour. How does one accurately describe how wet wet is? Well, I filmed a piece of paper drying so I could take five stills. So exciting! Each state of wetness was then named for identification. In future I may change these to more English sounding names; drenched, soaked, soggy, damp and moist perhaps. So buoyed up am I that I may even go on to describe the length of a piece of string!
Writing the book has been a labour of love but I hope that in doing so it might benefit your artistic journey. If you buy it and enjoyed it I would be delighted if would write a review and share it with others. Here are some ideas:-
