The colour wheel re-visited.

There is no shame in starting something at the beginning. Is there?

During my initial six week course I ask students to paint a colour wheel using three primary colours. This is regarded by some as too basic as they remember doing it back in primary school. So far I have yet to come across a person who, having done it,  has not been amazed at the amount of hues that can be produced by just three colours.

Recently a student, who's been coming to my class for a while and is now an extremely accomplished artist, painted himself a new colour wheel. This is what he had to say...

"I've just gone back and painted another colour wheel using the three colours you recommended, Windsor Lemon, Permanent Rose and Windsor Blue (green shade), which I use all the time. I can see the importance of the colour wheel now. I understand the colours we use and how to mix them accurately to get the exact shade of colour I need, and all from the colour wheel. Now I have a colour wheel on my wall at home where I paint plus a small one I take around with me. I feel this new friend is a must for all budding artists as it helps you learn about colour and which colours to use. Everyone should re visit the colour wheel."
