During the Spring of 2013 I, along with four other artists, were on holiday in South West France.
During our stay we visited Carcassonne, and the old city, which hosts a firework display on Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July) in celebration of Bastille Day or La Fête Nationale, my inspiration for this painting. I hope one day to visit on this day and bear witness to this annual event I heard so much about.
