“You use a mirror of glass to see yourself; you use Art to see your soul." George Bernard Shaw.
It's been quite a while since I posted one so here's another example:-
Paint a self-portrait using still-life objects that describe or represent you.
This challenge will encourage you to think in a creative way.
This was challenging for me. At first I had trouble thinking of things that would describe me. Plus I don't normally paint still-life so I felt I wouldn't enjoy doing it. I was feeling out of my comfort zone, but that is the whole point of challenging yourself. If you continue to do what you are able to you can't develop any further.
I surprised myself, however. Once I'd made a start I became engrossed in the process and I painted in a style I wouldn't normally use - and I didn't hate it!
I will post other challenges in the coming months. Perhaps you could take up the challenges yourself? If you do, please re-visit and let me know how you got on, what you learnt from it and whether you enjoyed it.
Previous challenges have been to:-
Paint with the wrong hand.
Use tone to create aerial perspective.
Paint a picture using just one colour.
